More from the Gangtok Zoo

It was a beautiful day when we went to the Gangtok Zoo. We enjoyed the hiking around almost as much as seeing the animals. There were about 8 different displays there but it was so enjoyable just to be able to walk around.

A wonderful time as a family

On the way home

One thing we saw was a huge dam being built on the Teesta River. It was amazingly large. There is quite a controversy as to what its effects will be on the local environment there.

Melody on our trip

The first part of our trip it was rather difficult for Melody as she wasn't feeling good and also felt very confined as we had to hold on to her all the time due to the steep roads. Also, we found that eating out three times a day wasn't the easiest on a 1 1/2 year old. Thankfully, towards the end, she started to really enjoy the time. Though it wasn't without its bumps, we had one of our best times together as a family on this vacation. Praise God!

On a fantastic Ropeway in Gangtok

You can see a little of how steep the hill is that the city was built on from these pictures. It was quite a hike going up from the lower part of the city to our hotel. We often took a small taxi, like a minivan.

Our Trip to Gangtok Sikkim

We were blessed to be able to spend seven full days in Gangtok, Sikkim in early April. The mountain furthest to the right is Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world.

Let's see, how does this thing work?

Harvest in two weeks

This season's rice crop is almost ready to be harvested. Please pray
that there will be no storms with hail or damaging winds and that no
insects will damage this crop.

Painting the Hospital

One of the big projects going on right now is the re-painting of the hospital in preparation for celebrating the 25th anniversary in October. The entire hospital needed to have the existing paint and whitewash scraped away and then the new paint applied. I am glad to say that we are now about halfway through this huge project. I say huge because it involves moving entire wards sometimes, twice in one week, to other places in the hospital.

A fascinating spider near our house

This spider was a little more than one inch long. It wove this X in a brick wall next to our house.
